MECP2 Duplication Syndrome is Reversible!!!
In November of 2015, our community recieved some very exciting news! It was published -- that researchers at the Baylor College of Medicine, led by Dr. Huda Zoghbi, have reversed MECP2 Duplication Syndrome in adult symptomatic mice using antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) gene therapy!!
This groundbreaking research shows that ASO gene therapy is a promising approach to treat MECP2 Duplication Syndrome. Further scientific studies need to be conducted before this therapeutic approach can be tested on humans, but this study is the first hurdle cleared of the many inherent to the drug development process.

We are very optimistic that a cure is on the horizon for MECP2 Duplication Syndrome, and it's sister syndrome, Rett Syndrome.

.....We have a long way to go - but this is a huge step in the right direction and can mean so much or our MECP2 community as well as other Rett Related disorders!!!

WE WILL NOT GIVE UP!!!!!

We are the Families - Fighting to cure MECP2 Duplication Syndrome together!
These are our children. These are our sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, nephews, nieces, cousins and our grandchildren.
Many of our children are unable to speak, walk or use their hands. They have breathing problems, feeding tubes, seizures, anxiety, gastrointestinal and orthopedic issues.
Despite the debilitating nature of the disorder, our children are much more than symptoms. Their courage and their strength inspire us and motivate us every single day.

We believe that breathtaking changes may be years - not decades - away.. and we thank you for your donation to speed this work forward.

Your donation is critical to our children!! | Please join the fight and help us find a cure!! http://www.401project.com/take-action/

Finding a Cure - Rett Syndrome and MECP2 Disorders
The research taking place at Baylor College in Houston Texas may hold the keys to finding a cure for not only Rett Syndrome and MECP2 Disorders but possibly other neurological disorders such as Autism, epilepsy and more. By these two seemingly different groups combining their efforts we may be able to find a cure and help those affected.

Alone we are rare. Together we are strong. Please ~ join the fight!

Katie's Clinic for Rett Syndrome and MECP2 Disorders
Research has shown that a diagnosis of Rett syndrome or a related MECP2 disorder does not mean one cannot learn, and that through an enriched environment and proper communication strategies, amazing things can happen! Several places worldwide independently have come to conclude that presuming competence is essential. Individuals with Rett syndrome and related MECP2 disorders are indeed capable, but environmental support is needed to help promote communication and learning.

~ This video is dedicated to all individuals living with Rett syndrome and related MECP2 disorders.

NIH Rett Syndrome Natural History Study
Scientists know that lack of a properly functioning Mecp2 protein disturbs the function of mature brain cells but they do not know the exact mechanisms by which this happens. Investigators are trying to find other genetic switches that operate in a similar way to the MECP2 protein. The goal of the study is to give broader insights into the many features and associated problems often seen in Rett syndrome as well as to learn more about children with MECP2 duplications and mutations.
